Privacy Policy

PriceHound (“we”, “us”) is a price-tracking app. You add a product link; we watch the price across retailers and notify you when it drops. This policy explains what data we collect to do that, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

PriceHound is the operator of the PriceHound iOS app and this website, and is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. For anything privacy-related, contact us at privacy@pricehound.co.uk.

2. What we collect

• Account details. When you sign in with Apple we receive a unique Apple account identifier, your email address (or Apple's private-relay address if you choose “Hide My Email”), and optionally your name.
• The products you track. The product links you add, the retailer listings we match to them, your confirm/dismiss decisions on suggested matches, and your notification threshold preferences.
• Push notification token. A device token issued by Apple so we can send you price-drop alerts.
• Subscription status. If you subscribe to PriceHound Pro, Apple sends us a transaction identifier, the subscription's status, and its expiry date. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — we never see your payment details.
• Usage analytics. Events such as “item added” or “notification opened”, along with your app version, device model, and OS version. This is linked to your PriceHound account ID (a random identifier), not to your name or email.
• Website analytics. If you visit this website (not the app), we measure your visit — see Website analytics below.
• Server logs. Like almost every online service, our servers temporarily process your IP address and basic request data for security and to keep the service running.

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, your photos, an advertising identifier (IDFA), or your browsing activity outside this website and the links you explicitly share with the app.

3. How we use your data

• To provide the service — tracking prices for your items, matching products across retailers, and sending you price-drop notifications. (Legal basis: performing our contract with you.)
• To manage your subscription — validating your Pro status with Apple. (Legal basis: contract.)
• To understand and improve the app and this website — aggregate analytics about how features are used. (Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving PriceHound.)
• To keep the service secure — abuse prevention and debugging. (Legal basis: legitimate interest.)

4. AI-assisted product matching

To match the same product across different retailers, we send product-page content — titles, brand and model names, specifications, prices — to Anthropic's Claude AI service for analysis. This is information about products, not about you: your identity, email, and account details are never included.

5. Where your data lives

Everything we host ourselves — your account, your tracked items and their price history — is stored in the UK and EU. Some of the services we rely on are run by international companies, so your personal data may also be processed outside the UK and EU. Here is everyone involved, and where we host with them:

• Railway — our database and API hosting (EU, Netherlands).
• Fly.io — our price-checking workers (London, UK).
• PostHog — app and website analytics (EU, Germany).
• Sentry — crash and error diagnostics (EU, Germany/Frankfurt).
• Apple — sign-in, push notifications, and subscriptions, under Apple's own privacy policy.
• RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management, under RevenueCat's own privacy policy.
• Cloudflare — network routing and security for this website and our API.

Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on the data protection terms in our agreements with these providers. Email privacy@pricehound.co.uk if you would like details of the safeguards that apply.

6. Who we share data with

Only the service providers listed above, and only so they can operate the service on our behalf. We do not sell your personal data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites. We would disclose data if a valid legal obligation required it.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you have a PriceHound account. If a tracked item stops being checkable it may be deactivated, but it remains yours until you remove it or delete your account. Website analytics (if you visit pricehound.co.uk) has its own, separate retention period — see section 11.

Deleting your account (Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing us) permanently removes your account, tracked items, matched listings, device tokens, and subscription records from our systems, immediately. Product price history that isn't linked to any user (e.g. “this laptop cost £899 on 1 June”) is retained, as it contains no personal data.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Email privacy@pricehound.co.uk and we'll respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. For website analytics, use the objection control in section 11 instead — because nothing we store lets us match an email to your browser, that control (or your browser's own Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control signal) is the only way to apply an objection to it.

9. Children

PriceHound is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app.

11. Website analytics

This section is about this website (pricehound.co.uk) — not the app. It's separate from the "Usage analytics" bullet in section 2, which covers the app only.

When you visit this website, we measure the visit so we can understand how the site is used and improve it. What we collect: the full address of the page you're on (including any search terms or campaign tags in the URL), the site or search engine that referred you, details about your browser and device (browser and operating system, and their version numbers, and device type), your browser's language and time-zone settings, your screen size and the size of your browser window, and a pseudonymous visitor count worked out server-side by PostHog on our behalf from your IP address and browser, rotated daily. Your IP address is not stored and is not used to work out your location: PostHog uses it, together with your browser's identifying string, only when an event arrives to calculate that daily count, then discards both before anything is saved — see the retention note below. We do not set any cookie, and there is no cross-site tracking, advertising, or profiling — this data is never shared with an advertiser or used to build a profile of you.

Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how our own website is used. Processor: PostHog, EU (Germany) — the same processor as the app's usage analytics in section 5. Retention: website analytics events are stored under the data retention that applies to our PostHog plan, currently one year. They don't include your IP address or any location worked out from it: PostHog uses your IP address only when an event arrives, to calculate the daily visitor count, and then discards it.

The only thing we ever store in your browser for this is a single flag recording that you've objected, and only once you actually have — see the control below. It doesn't identify you or contain any identifier. This flag lives in your browser, so clearing this site's data — by you, or automatically by your browser — removes it, and you'd need to use the control again. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control don't depend on anything being stored, so they keep working regardless.

You have a right to object to this at any time, free of charge, using the control below. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we honour that automatically as well — you don't need to also use the control, though you're welcome to.
